ABOUT THIS PIECE
Carefully handprinted with natural colours on premium calico cotton fabric, this block print indicates ages-old beauty of these versatile fabrics from Persia.
Appreciated worldwide for its exotic charm, craftsmanship, affordability, and cultural significance, Persian block print (also known as Qalamkar print) is a traditional form of block printing that originated in Iran and has a rich history dating back several centuries.
Persian block prints are commonly used to create textiles, including clothing, scarves, tablecloths, and tapestries, but the finest ones are used in the production of decorative items, such as wall hangings, cushion covers, and rugs. The prints often feature intricate patterns, vibrant colours, and a blend of geometric and natural elements, showcasing the rich artistic heritage of Persian culture.
Block printing is a traditional form of printmaking in which a design is carved into a block of wood. The raised surface of the block is then inked and pressed onto paper or fabric to create a printed image.
We collaborate with a workshop with over 100 years of experience in this art to produce these unique and intricate pieces. All pieces are washable in Cold water and would not fade.
