ABOUT THIS PIECE
This vintage Torkaman Bukhara runner has been woven by hand from 100% handspun wool using horizontal looms by the Torkaman nomads of northeastern Persia.
In Torkaman’s handwoven carpets only thin weft is used making them more pliable, soft, and pleasant and since they live in cold regions, their carpets are polished thickly with long piles. Passed down through generations, one of the most notable aspects of Torkaman carpet designs is that each tribe has its own motifs derived from its environment, history, and beliefs depicted in elaborate abstract forms.
