Antique Qalamkar Block print Boteh Morif
Qalamkar – meaning ‘pen’ and ‘craftsmanship’ – is a centuries old art form in Persia. A pen-like blade is used to carve walnut wood into stamps which are then coloured with local, naturally produced dyes before being meticulously applied to 100% cotton fabric. Through a methodical layering process, beautiful, multi-coloured patterns emerge.
